It’s the time we look forward to all year: summer. Days spent in the sand, plenty of sunshine and waterfront relaxation await. As we get ready for the sunny season, it’s time to start thinking about your summer skincare routine.
Between harmful UV rays and drying sun exposure, the summer can be detrimental to your skin if you don’t take time to prepare. Today, we’ll dive into some summer skincare tips to give you glowing skin. If added to your skincare routine, each one of these healthy skin tips will help keep you protected and healthy all summer long.
Tip#1: SPF all day
The first of our summer tips is essential to protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. We can’t say this enough: you need to have an SPF in your daily skincare routine. Yes, every day – no matter the weather! Even when it is overcast or cold, your skin is still absorbing UV rays from the sun. To keep your skin healthy and protected, it’s even more important during the summer when your skin is getting even more direct sun exposure.
The American Academy of Dermatology suggests that everyone use sunscreen that has broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays, has a SPF of 30 or more and is water-resistant. When applying sunscreen, make sure to cover all parts of your body that see the sun. Don’t forget to take care of areas that you may forget about, like the tops of your feet and the back of your neck. Reapply sunscreen every two hours or so when you’re outside to maintain healthy skin.
Tip #2: Keep it light
For those who like to wear makeup, be careful about how much you apply during the summer. This is incredibly important to keeping your skin clear, glowing, and healthy. Comedogenic (pore-clogging) foundations can cause acne, especially after spending the day sweating. Instead, add a light BB cream or a powder-based foundation to your skincare routine. It’s important to make sure it’s non-comedogenic. Just check the label before you buy. If you’re looking to keep your makeup lasting longer, look for a sweat-proof setting spray that can help you avoid having your makeup run. If your skin is especially oily in the summer, setting spray can double your wear time too!
Tip #3: Hydrate often
The next of our healthy skin tips is essential for those who struggle with dry skin. The more you sweat, the more your skin will lose its natural moisture. Dry skin can be painful and can crack, so it’s important to keep your skin fresh and hydrated as much as possible. We’d recommend adding a moisturizer to your summer skincare routine that is light and soaks into the skin rather than sitting on top of it. One great way to moisturize your skin is through masks — the ingredients work together to make your skin as smooth and soft as possible by soaking into your skin for a longer period of time. Remember: moisturized skin is healthy skin!
Tip #4: Aim for head to toe perfection
When you’re getting glowing skin this summer, remember to take care of every part of your skin. Too often, we forget areas like our hands or our feet that need just as much pampering as the rest of our body. Don’t forget to add hand cream and foot peels to your summer skincare routine to keep you shining from head to toe. We might be a little biased, but our Original Exfoliation Foot Peel is perfect for getting your feet ready for sandal season. You’ll have fresh, glowing skin before you know it!
